New York veterans threaten to sue after they are blocked from marching on Memorial Day despite city approving cannabis parade and BLM protesters
A Staten Island veterans' group is threatening to sue the city if it doesn't get approval of its permit for a Memorial Day parade
The veterans were planning a smaller version of their annual parade
They filed a permit with the NYPD in February, but were told it was denied in early March
The city had previously allowed Black Lives Matter protests and even a Cannabis Parade for May 1
The Cannabis Parade organizers received their permit from the Parks Department not the PD
'There's a reason this stuff goes through [the] NYPD - for security for those in the parade and those on the sidelines,' he said in the Staten Island Advance article. And 'Parks should have no role in this parade, as it never has for a century.'
The NYPD says it has not granted any permits since the pandemic began, but will provide protection for any protest or event it becomes aware of"
