    Decoration day

After the Civil War, Decoration Day was adopted as a time for Americans to decorate the graves of the dead
who served in that war. Years later, it became Memorial Day as we know it today. I went to decorate the grave of my g.g.grandfather John Daleus today. John enlisted in 1864 at the age of 17 in Co. I 48 PAV. He may have been influenced by his older brother Daniel, who enlisted in 1862 at 34 yrs. in Co. K 67 PAV. Daniel's son James took advantage of his father's absence and enlisted in 1864 at 15 yrs. in Co. D 48PAV. All three survived the war. John went back to work in the mines, Daniel back to his cigar making business and James enlisted in the regular Army later, and served for 10 more years. I'm sure many of you have folks who were caught up in that war. Federal or Confederate, they were all Americans. God Bless America and take a moment to remember.JNO DALEUS.jpg
