2&9/16" shotgun ammo

I was recently given a quantity of old (paper hulled) shotgun ammo, including most of a box of Remington 16ga "Shur-Shot". The box is marked 2 & 9/16". I experimented with two rounds, both fired OK. Anyone have an idea as to when Remington last made this length ammo?
