Greetings Gents,
It's been a while since I've had anything interesting to post on here but now I have a friend who has a US&S 1911 that he is interested in selling.
I don't know what to look for to determine what parts are original etc.
I intend to get with him and take some pictures.
Any advice is welcome.

In addition to being in the correct serial number range and having the correct markings, the next thing to check is the finish. The US&S pistols were finished in Du-Lite blue over a lightly sandblasted finish giving them a blue/gray finish. The trigger will be finished in bright blue.

The acceptance stamp should be RCD in a circle. Colt duplicated serial numbers in the upper US&S range, but the Colt will have a GHD acceptance mark. The early US&S pistols did not have the P proof on slide or receiver, so both parts should either have no P or both have the P.

Johnny has very well described what to look on a M1911A1 US&S, this may also interest you about the P (Proof)
From s/n 1041405 to 1059000 no P on slide and frame.
From 1060000 to 1082000 P on slide and frame, P on top of the slide left off centered.
From 1083000 to 1096404 P on slide and frame, P is centered on top of the slide.

The US&S pistols had a blued trigger, checkered slide stop & main spring housing. I usually count 31 knurls +/-1 from top to bottom on the second row on their MSH. Also, most of the barrel bushings had the concentric circle milling marks. If you can get some photos please post.
