How should I remove hardened grease from my 1911 ???

On my new CMP 1911A1 there are many spots, smears, blotches, and drips, of hardened grease on the slide, frame, safety, hammer, etc.
What kind of solvent will soften it up for removal ? I need some advice before I start trying everything from acetone to gasoline.

well,

you can wipe it down,, over and over,

spray it with Kroil, several times, let soak and clean

or easy way, get some kerosene, and cover it,

let it soak a bit and get a nylon brush (like a tooth brush) and have at it

I have plenty of kerosene. I put half a dozen parts to soaking in it right now.
I'll use a tooth brush on them tomorrow. I have to find a bigger pan to soak the frame and slide. Maybe some of my wife's tupperware.

What about spraying with brake cleaner or just good old boiling water?

Brake cleaner will clean it if anything will, but the phosphate may already be stained.

It cleaned up real nice, soaking overnight in kerosene mixed with a little printing press ink wash solvent.
I'll try to post two photos. Not Bad for a Rack Grade.
Is there any information regarding the origin of the slide with 35597 on the right side,
and what I think would be a drawing number or part number of 7790314 on the left. ???

Hey Guys,
If i may, a question about the barrel.
From what I have read here "M" is for "Magnaflux", "P" is "Proof", I've never heard of a "SW".
Anybody know what SW stands for???

can't tell the barrel (Chrome) at the angles photo'ed,

SW would be the maker,

the 779 on the top is the part number (replacement)

Postwar replacement GI barrels have been observed with “SW”, “H&R”, and “TZ”.

Rinse the parts in cheap gasoline in a plastic coffee container (one for each wheel so as to not mix up the components) outside for ventilation.

Um... I don't think the environmental or dermatologist people would approve so we'll call that a joke.

Hey Guys,
I field striped it the night before I took it out shooting.
Wanted to make sure it was greased up real good.
So took a photograph of the underside if the barrel hood. It's a beautiful satin like silver color.
The whole of the bore is that way, save for the tip of muzzle, it's lightly Parkerized (dark anyway) there.

Went to The Nevada County Sportsmen's Club yesterday and tried it out.
Ran Real Smooth. Shot 50 rounds of Winchester .45 AUTO ball (white box).
And 10 rnds. of some old ammo I came into, and have been packing around for more than 45 years.

(+ 0ver 1000 rnds of E.C. 43 S, F.A. 6-16, W 17, REM-UMC 18, U.S.C.CO. 6-19,
14 mags in 1918 dated pouches, and So Much More, but that's another story, if Ya want to hear it.? +)

Anyway, shot some REM-UMC.
The Remington Targetmaster, 185 grain M. C. Wad Cutter.
I shot two, 5 round groups with it and was blown away.
Imagin how good it would be in capable hands.
I couldn't see the sights well against the target black.
So I lined the sights up on the edge of the paper. Worked better.

Here is a photo of "The Sliver Lining", a SW chrome lined barrel. And my Best Group Ever w/a 1911A1.

I real happy with the CMP Rack Grade 1911A1 Pistol.
It's like a Race Car (remember the old "Hardtop Races" at the fair grounds),
A Thoroughbred. With a hard slide and a chrome lined barrel, plus the other parts are like new.
A Real High Performance Machine. w\a U.S.A. pedigree.

One more note on this slide (7790314/53397).
There is no seam around the firing pin hole like the WWII slides with the hard plug screwed into the breach face.
