    Recoil sping selection

Searched and found two ways to choose a recoil spring.

Method one. Empties should land 6-8 feet to the right and slightly behind the gun.

Method two. Spring rating corresponds to the power factor of the load, with a chart.

Any one spent a lot of time on this?

Jim Clarks 1911 style Long Heavy Slide .38 wadcutter barely got the empties out of the pistol, and they were in a small circle by your foot.

Don't know now, but Colt use to put a 16# spring withe the Gold Cup for 230 grain loads, and a 14# spring for 185 grain loads. Never had a problem with this.

Bought a Wolff replacement spring kit for 1911a1, BHP & M39-2, followed the rating listed and selected the second highest for each side arm.

need to buy some more for the M39-2.
