    smith and wesson model 1917

Value of a pistol in 95% condition. Are grips numbered to gun? Have not seen gun. Any buying info would be a great help. Is 1400. high?
    Thanks Frank

If it's truly in 95% condition, then $1,400 is not out of line. Grips should be numbered to the gun. You do
not say what the SN or year of production is but if it's one of the early models with the grooved hammer then
    my opinion is definitely "yes".

Just saw this pistiol. Grips are not numbered at all. Can't say it is 95%. But it is in nice condition. Grips fit perfect but are not numbered at all.how much do non matching grips subtract from value of a pistol like this.

The serial number was put on one side, and very lightly in pencil. You may have to shine a light across them to see the number if it is still there. The grips should fit like they grew on the pistol, so check their fit.

Thanks john. Your suggestion was a big help. By moving the right grip around under a bright light and using a magnifying glass i was able to make out the serial number. Now i can see it with just my reading glasses.the grips look like they fit perfect.
