Brownell's sells the L.P.A. adjustable rear sight which is advertised to work without altering the slide, but you will have very limited elevation adjustment.

Once upon a time I had a very nice Model 70 w/ a MMC rear sight. Worked beautifully!!! Sincerely. bruce.

Back in the 1960s and 70s some gunsmiths would install Smith & Wesson revolver sights. This provided a very low but fully adjustable rear sight. The late "Skeeter" Skelton had this set up on his carry M1911.

It requires a lot of gunsmithing and is not cheap. I suspect it would also be hard to find anyone now who would do the work. It was a really neat set up when done right though.
