Brownell's makes a tool to remove them, and if you plan on shooting very much it is worth the money. Or, you can look at Brownell's and make one from 1/2" copper tubing.

      The *BEST* way?

Why shooting them in a M1917 revolver of course. Course the powda burns up, and the cupronickel plated lead disappears, and you're left with some brass to pry out.

Brownell's also has some plastic clips which, while they probably won't last forever, work fine and are much easier to load and unload.

Check out Dillon's tools for removing and reloading moon clips. Super easy and fast, well worth the money.

I use an old socket wrench . The wrench is like a giant hex key for use with old hex-holed sockets . It's a loose fit into the star clip. Place the clip on it , hook a case over a 50 cal can at a corner , pry the leg against the outside of the can , case pops off into the can . You can do a clip in nothing flat.
To load , I place a round on the table , slip the clip into the groove , push down on the bar , clip round into clip. Very fast and easy .
