    M1911A1 production dates by month?

Is it possible to narrow down the approximate month of production for a M1911A1? Similar to how the Garand dates have been determined? Thanks.

[I]f you have a copy of Clawson's small book (Third Edition dated 2003) and you look on pages 142 and 143 you will find a break down of each manufacturer and the month by month production numbers to go with each.

This is specifically for 1911A1 production.

Oh, I guess I misunderstood what you were looking for. If you want to know about a specific serial number and when it was shipped to Springfield then you have to look that up in Clawson's Big Book. I know, this doesn't tell you exactly when a pistol was produced but I think that this date is about as close as you can get.

What exactly are you looking for?

Just have Poyer's book; wanted to look up a serial number for approximate month (and year) of production.

The 2001462 Remington Rand 1911A1 was made I believe in December 1944............... And the 1123084 Colt 1911A1 was shipped to Springfield Armory in one of about Five different shipments from September 24, 1943 until about October 19, 1943. During this time frame, pistols were not necessarily shipped in numerical order.

Colt duplicated serial numbers with the other three major manufacturers, so if you aren't sure what those serial number ranges were you need to post the manufacturer.

Which serial numbers exactly were you speaking of?

If you have Clawson's "Collector's Handbook" look at the bottom on page 145.

Maybe I'm reading the information incorrectly but I don't see anything on the bottom of page 145 that would show any duplicated Colt serial numbers in this gentlemans serial number range. What am I missing?

According to the OP, he has quite a few he wants information on. Colt duplicated approximately 105,000 serial numbers, so he stands a chance of having a duplicate serial number. I didn't say anything about the two serial numbers he posted being duplicates. I have no idea where you got that.

Sorry that I misunderstood what you were saying, I was just addressing the two serial numbers that the OP brought up in his posts. My Bad...
