I saw a Springfield 1911 in original finish at a gun show last week. Serial No. was 1255XX. The gun was marked NRA in the spot I have observed authenticated NRA 1911's. Can anyone steer me to where I could check this serial number and verify it was an actual NRA gun. I was warned there were many guns counterfeited to increase their value and the marks look authentic . I emailed the NRA without receiving an answer. I would appreciate any info you might have. There are no official records of the NRA shipped Model 1911 pistols. There are some lists of observed NRA pistols, but I don't think it is posted to the internet.
There were also "Special Target" Model 1903 Springfields sold to NRA members during the same time frame before WWI. These are identified by the NRA marking on the triggerguard.
