    Question on Modified holsters

Occasionally see historic photos such as WW2 era holsters for the 1911 modified with the top flap cutoff. Question: how was the pistol secured in the holster so it didn't flop out?

The M1916 holster normally is a pretty snug fit with the 1911A1 so "flopping out" is no more of an issue than with any of the currently available, open top carry holsters. I would guess that the G.I.s who cut off the flap were concerned about speed of draw in a pinch.
