    Happy Groundhog's Day Lt. Thompson

This pistol, 1915 Colt M1911 s/n 108891 was sold to 2 Lt. Thompson AR (Army Reserve) on 4 February 1919...shorlty after WWI. Certainly, all the M1911 pistols didn't get used up during the war. This pistol is all original and still remains in excellent condition. The good Lt. purchased the pistol with his own money and elected to properly maintain it. I'm glad he did.

Wow, super nice. I wonder how it was stored all those years. Thanks for posting Scott.

High and dry. It sure wasn't exposed to moisture and left unattended.

Wow! I have s/n 1083XX also made in 1915. Not as nice as Lt. Thompson's but pretty nice being that the finish and all parts are original to the pistol. It has a long hammer with sharp rear edge. Shouldn't Lt. Thompson's have the long hammer with rounded rear edge? As kind of an intermediate collector, I apologize for what is probably a pretty unsophisticated question.

The hammer in 108891 does have a rounded rear edge. No apology necessary, as I don't think anyone is looking for a too sophisticated question to answer.

Here is a long hammer with the sharp back edge from another of my 1914 pistols. This one is in the 102xxx serial range.

Isn't that something...in many ways. Great pistol, pictures and story.

That beauty must have found it's way to Lt. Thompson's sock drawer quite early in it's life........Just a thought....
