1911 as issued match at Oklahoma Games report

I showed up with my Springfield 1911 made in 1916 and as the CMP official was weighing my trigger, my buddy just laughed because it was so heavy they couldn't get the hammer to fall jerking the weight. It must be 8#.

I get down on the line and of course want to see everyone's pistol and as I walk up down the line, I notice there are only three as issued pistols there. All the rest had sights, beavertails, one was a Gold Cup! The CMP looked over the situation and I guess since DQ'ing 80% of the field would look bad, they let everyone compete and said it was just a games match anyway.

This was the first pistol match I'd ever shot and also the first time I ever shot the pistol on paper, so it's no surprise I came in dead last. The guy next to me with a legal 1911A1 couldn't hit the paper so he fired most of the match with his CCW Kimber 1911 w/ 3.5" barrel! I was missing my MKIV ser 70 for sure because I was having a hard time keeping shots on the paper too.

I thought I'd have the rarest pistol on the line, but no. The only other legal 1911 on the line was another Springfield, but his was an NRA sales pistol! First one I'd ever seen.

In the end, I learned a lot and may pick up a cheap clone to take up the sport since there is a gun club near me that has vintage handgun matches.

    Don't 'cha just love it . . . . . .!!

    I attended a "Garand Match" a while back at a local gun club . . . .

Yup . . . I was the ONLY one there with a Garand!!

Many bolt guns and AR's . . . but only ONE Garand (mine)!!

I guess that's one way to get high Garand score!
