I have a new ATI 45acp government model pistol. I want to protect the frame/slide/barrel and other internals from being battered with occasional hot loads. Should I replace the recoil spring with a stronger one? What spring would you recommend? I mostly shoot factory and equivolent reloads. Thank you
Stronger recoil spring for hot loads

While a stronger spring slows the slide down going backward, it speeds it up going forward. John Browning designed the receiver to take the recoil of being fired, and balanced the cycle with a 15/16# spring. The only thing that stops the slide going forward is the legs on the barrel hitting the slide stop. -
My custom has 5000 plus rds with a 16 lb spring changed out every 2500 rds. I shot a lot of Winchester running 940 fps and I've not had any issues yet. The biggest issue I've had is bluing wear from carrying it all the time. I wish I got it Ion bonded instead.Comment

Never thought of the barrel legs taking a beating. Often wondered how they got broke off. ThanksWhile a stronger spring slows the slide down going backward, it speeds it up going forward.
