    1917 rejected Colt M1911 s/n C88217

    1917 Colt Government Model s/n C88217

    Original and unaltered. Acquired from the Charles W. Clawson collection and featured in his Colt .45 Service Models book on page 172 as a "G" marked rejected military receiver used for commercial sales. You'll notice the same "X" is used on top of the receiver and on the left side of the trigger guard.

    Obviously, Colt didn't throw anything away that could be re-used elsewhere.

    No they did not......

    This slide is off of a 1920 commercial pistol. You can make out the Army markings that were removed and the new markings applied. I have to wonder how they "removed" the markings because if they just ground and polished that side, it would have to be noticeably thinner than the other side.
