    Sad 1924 Transitional Colt.

Saw a 1924 Transitional Colt for sale recently.

It looked to be all correct except the magazine per a quick look at Clawson but unfortunately, it had been stored in a holster for a long time. The frame was in reasonable shape with some finish wear but the slide must have rusted and been "cleaned" leaving behind some pitting. The pistol had the correct barrel but it had seen some corrosive ammunition and was not properly cleaned.

I'd imagine finding an original finish correct slide would be just this side of impossible and a barrel even more so.

    Too bad.

As bad as this Transition may look, it would be best to leave all the original parts together. It is what it is now. Anything that you do to make it better will only make it worth less. The chances of finding any other slide that would match, both finish and wear patterns, would be next to impossible. An original interlaced HP barrel with K markings are virtually impossible to find that are not already attached to another pistol. Just clean up this example and stop any future deterioration.

Duane, the shop that has it now has had it for some time. The slide has little to no finish left after being "cleaned" and I think that and potentially the price may be why it is still for sale.

The pistol as described would not be worth the cost of a correct barrel. It is what it is now, but might appeal to those that don't want something nice with no history as that one sounds like it has the "been there and done that" look.

I did not write down the S/N or take any pics.
