Removing dove tail rear sight

I would like to replace the rear sight on my ATI 45 gov. model with an adjustable sight (Dawson?). What would be the easiest way to remove original sight? Buying a dedicated tool is not practical for me. Hammering away with a brass rod makes me cringe. Would I need to support inside of slide before banging away? Thank you

Best to take it to a gunsmith with the correct sight pusher, as even a brass drift will ding the sight. If you decided to remove it yourself; out from left, in from right.
