Colt M1911 Priceing?

I was shown a Colt M1911 that is for sale. I've always wanted one. It was made in 1917. I would rate the condition at 80% blue, because it has some holster wear and has 2 dime size patch's of very light pin prick pitting on the slide. Gun has never been refinished. It comes with some WW1 paper work (military documents)on who owned it. He was an NCO in 1917/1918, but never left the states.
1911 prices seem to be all over the place. Asking price is $2,000 firm. Is this a good price, right on the money, or too much? Thanks for any help.

That sounds within the range of reasonable to me, particularly with WWI original paperwork showing it's history, almost 100 years ago. CC

Ok, picked up the 1911 so I can actually look at in person, and not over a cell phone picture. First, the bluing on the slide is a little thinner then the picture shows, along with a little more wear on front and back straps. The internals appear correct, and the gun has not been refinished. Now, regarding the bore, there isn't any! There's no rifling left, I've never seen a bore worn that bad. After seeing it in person I'm thinking the asking price is too high.

Bores didn't wear out in a .45 ACP. It may be rusted or corroded out. It helps some if the barrel is correct to the pistol, but a wrong barrel with a sewer bore certainly takes away from the $2000 price.

I believe it's the original barrel. I'm sure it's corroded out. Had a friend shoot some 1920's FA 45acp in is H&K, and he forgot to clean it for one month. You wouldn't believe the rust that formed. I'm of the opinion now that 2g's is too much for this gun.

If you want it bad enough then the price asked will have to be paid. If you want a shooter just get something else.
