    Highest Known Ithaca Serial Number?

Just posting this for a member of another forum. It's a gun he's thinking about buying or taking on trade. Note the serial number... is this legit? Thanks in advance.

Clawson indicates the last pistol manufactured by Ithaca was No 2660318.?

According to Clawson's little book and Scott Meadow's book 2660318 was the last Ithaca produced.

Some times the fakers are so good that they fool themselves. That is not a GI receiver.

Thanks Johnny, that's what he needed to hear. Amazing that someone would go through all that trouble and then use too high a serial number. Guess the faker was hoping to score big.

The old serial number lists used the assigned ranges which was 2693613 for Ithaca, and I believe it was Clawson that first gave the actual last serial number. Then again the faker may have know the actual last serial number and put his fake just outside that number so he wouldn't duplicate a known number. At any rate, the pistol is illegal to possess because of it's altered serial number.

That was a pretty good job pantographing the markings, but the blocky front strap and peculiar finger relief cuts gave it away the second I looked at it.
