    Shoulder holster made from 1916?

Is this something original or cobbled together? If original, what's it's nomenclature and purpose?

That is a in military jargon, STRAP, SHOULDER, MILITARY POLICE. It was a combination belt slide and shoulder strap made for the Military Police. I believe all of them were made at the Jeffersonville Quartermaster Depot.

This one is marked J.Q.M.D. and dated 1946. I believe they were first made in the late 1930's.
