    Rookie Reloading Qustion

I load my son's rounds and mine for a local high power match held each month which is fired at 100 yards using reduced targets to simulate 200, 300 and 600 yards. Since he (my 21 year old) will soon get a master designation and possibly a high master with another match, he wants to shoot leg matches and get distinguished. I use Sierra 77 gr bullets, Remington 7 1/2 primers and 22.6 grains of Varget which this service rifle just loves. Do I need to change this load for the longer ranges or only just worry about alot of clicks to move the sights up? Thanks for any thoughts. So far no luck finding N-140 to try.

when we shoot reduced sized targets at 200 yds (for 300 yard targets & 600 yard targets) (seldom at 100 yds, but had to once)....... we hold on point of impact on the bull...... rather than the traditional apple on a post hold at 6 O'clock........the impact aim point remains the same because the target is at the same distance, just reduced in size...... but hold very tight on her. Hope this is of some use to you. Our WhiteOakPrec Ar with a Kreiger 1-7 that John built loves Varget & the Sierra 77gr ...............we've stayed with it...........
be safe, enjoy life, journey well

If it shoots the load good at 100 stick with it . Learn the yardage adjustments for the sight at distance. 600 yards should not be an issue with that load. Checking bullet run out for long range rounds will help.

Talk to the shooters on the line when you shoot the full length course at Butner. I believe you will discover they mostly use a bit more Varget than you are loading.

I was using 24.5 grains of varget with the 77 grain sierra match king for the 200, and 300 yard lines. same load for 600 yard but the 80 grain sierra match king (single load).
I've known a few guys who have gone distinguished. One of them was pushing 25.3 grains of varget. REMEMBER, all DISCLAIMERS apply. work your loads up as your rifle and chamber is different then mine!

you might find this helpful (unless you already have your comeups)

600 YARD COME UPS --By: Master Po -- This formula works
for .223, 7.62mm and .30/06. It will get you on paper and a lot of the time
in the black. Caliber, bullet or velocity doesn't matter.
                >From a 100 Yds. zero come up 2 minutes for 200 yds.
                >From a 200 Yds. zero come up 3 minutes for 300 yds.
                >From a 300 Yds. zero come up 7 minutes for 500 yds.
                >From a 300 Yds. zero come up 11 minutes for 600 yds.
                >From a 500 Yds. zero come up 4 minutes for 600 yds.
You may have to touch up the elevation at 600 yds. but the 200 and 300 come
ups are usually in the 10 and X ring no matter what rifle is being shot.

Thanks much for the post. I may not shoot at those distances but the come up info is very informative and I'll make note of it.
