Colt 1860?? What do i have here??

    Hello,
I inherited this gun from my uncle.
I believe it is a Markwell Arms kit black powder Confederate Model 1860.
It is one of those from a kit that is actually functional when put together.
Can anyone confirm what it actually is?
    Also what is it worth?
I am looking to sell it.
Lastly, if I sell it do I need to go through an FFL?
And can I send it through the US Mail?
    Thank you in advance

Looks more like a copy of the 1851 Navy. Since it was a kit it doesn't appear that everything was fitted too well. I would put value in the $100 range.

If you have its original box, that will add some value to it.

i see you are in PA. you do not have to transfer it through an ffl. and i'm pretty sure you can send it through the mail as long as it is not restricted in the place you send it to.

            Box must add about $9.99.

Hey thank you for your help.
I am just looking to get rid of it.
I didnt want to give it away but if I get $60 I would be happy.

New price from Cabela's $149 and that is not a kit gun. Looks like your's may need some work before you can shoot it. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Piett...h-All+Products

Thank you guys for your help.

                  So just to be clear:
                  I DO live in Pennsylvania.
Is it legal for me to sell it to another PA resident without any type of FFL involvement?
In other words can I do a hand to hand (cash for gun) with another PA resident without restriction?

yes, would be my guess. call your state rep, if he is a repub. there is no fed law against it!

That pistol is of a type that never existed except in new made revolvers. It has a basic frame like an 1851 Navy Colt but it is Brass, which was a feature not used by Colt...only on some Confederate revolvers. It has a rounded barrel like a Dragoon, and I'll bet that the caliber is 44 as the cylinder is stepped up like a patented cylinder design for a .44 caliber 1860 Colt Army model 1860.

Your replica is a "Fantasy Revolver" as no Confederate manufacturer ever made any revolver with a rebated cylinder. Check with a local gun shop as they can advise you about the local and state laws that apply if you sell the revolver to someone else.

Yep, a repro for sure. Not even an accurate one following an actual type.
