The Gun book

Has anyone read The Gun. By C.J. Chivers? I might be off a little on the authors name. Basically about the AK-47 and the effect it had on infantry armies. Freaking great book. Starts out with the Gatlin gun. The Maxim. WWI(the slaughter). Here's the question; over half way through(now we're in Viet Nam) there is mention of a Captain Richard O.Culver. Our Dick Culver?
