    It was hard to beat his performance as "Sonny" Corleone in "The Godfather." He was as famous for the roles he turned down as the ones he took. Among the roles he was offered but didn't accept:

    Popeye Doyle in "The French Connection."
    R.P. McMurphy in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."
    Han Solo in "Star Wars."
    Captain Willard in Apocalypse Now.
    and several more.

    Those decisions probably made people like Gene Hackman and Harrison Ford very happy.

    He was a fine actor and worked to the end.
