    The Bridge of Spies

just saw the latest movie with Tom Hanks portraying attorney James Donovan who defended Russian Spy Rudolf Abel and later negotiated the swap of Abel for Francis Gary Powers and and American Student held prisoner in East Germany.

A couple of US snipers covered the swap at the Glienicke Bridge with M1D's.

Good flick especially for any one who grew up during the cold war era.

I liked it, I thought the best part was Powers' shoot down in his U-2, very well done. I went into East Berlin on a tour as a college kid in 1968 and much of it looked just as depicted in that movie. I did think Checkpoint Charlie looked a bit constricted, I remember it accomidated a lot of traffic; busses lined up and Vopos running mirrors on dollies under everything checking them out. I could not find any real goofs they even avoided the common mistake of using M-151s in the airfield and military scenes.

It was very much the world I grew up in depicted quite accurately. Highly recommended.
