They are a nice rifle and prices are starting to get up there with common type M-70. Back in the 80's you could buy them for 2-300 bucks. Same with Rem. M-30's, I have several of ea., purchased back then.
You can never go home again.

I have seen a pre-64 model 70 bolt installed in a M54. There is a minor problem with this. The M54 bolt has a bolt stop cut out that engages the sear which acts as the bolt stop. The model 70 bolt does not have this cut out. I suppose that it could be cut into the M70 bolt, but the M70 bolt does not cut easily.
I would question whether a M1903 bolt could be fitted to a M54 with out extensive machine work to both the receiver and the bolt.
On the M1903 bolt -from face of the bolt to rear of the bolt measures ~5 3/4 inches .
On the pre-64 model 70 bolt- From the face of the bolt to the rear of the bolt measures ~6 inches .
        FWIW

I'd give Dick Williams Gunshop up in Michigan a call for the mod 54 bolt.......google them, they have a great website & a toll free phone # & when you call them, you speak to a well trained gunsmith.. & if he doesn't know if parts interchange, he'll find out...........before they sell you a part.....
