The problem is that the senior army officers who staged the coup are part of his corrupt circle and will either take over and be just as corrupt or will install the recently ousted vice president who is considered to be even worse than Mugabe. From what I have read, the only reason the army acted was because Mugabe was going to install his wife as vice president and the army objected because a) everybody hates her and b) she was not part of the original group who fought white rule 40 years ago and was considered to be an interloper.

In this age of political correctness it is, of course, forbidden to make the point that Zimbabwe was a far better place to live as a British colony than it ever was as a so-called independent country but the last 40 years there demonstrate that colonization is not always a bad thing.

He's safe in his home because at 93 he's not likely to jump from a window and make a break for it. It's coup but where is it going? Aint going back to being Rhodesia. Just remember that Czar Nicholas was held in protective custody too until things worked out for the Bolsheviks.
