    Iditarod Joe

Well, Joe, another race is in the books; Joar Leifseth Ulsom won in 9 days 12 hrs. Sure you already know. Have you ever run it or does your handle just indicate something you are interested in?

Looks like Ulsom ran a good strong race and everything fell into place for him. The times today's racers turn in amaze me. I had the privilege of living and working in AK from '84-'86, but I never raced. Old Joe was a great guy and kind of a personal hero.

My last assignment in the USAF was to Shemya, '83-'84 you know, it's not the end of the world, but you can see it from there. In 1965 I was at Ft. Wainwright for arctic survival school and our class was the first to "camp out" in -55 weather. Dug a snow cave and double arctic mummy bags barely made it warm enough to sleep. Also first time I met a moose face to face; snow was up to my crotch, just up to her knees, looked like a clydesdale with spoons for antlers.
