    This Sucks!

The US Navy announced in September, 2016, that they will be doing away with the Enlisted Rating system, whose roots go back to the 18th Century.

A Sad Day when something like this happens.

This has been done to modernize the fleet and simplify advancement. It is important the military strives for efficiency in all things,
It is a basic rule of English that you can't use "efficiency" and "Personnel management" in the same sentence. Personnel managers manage for their own convenience. It's easy to manage 1,000 men who are all the same on paper, even if they have widely differing specialties -- and if you assign a guy to a position he was never trained for, hey! That's the Captain's problem!
