#1 you cant carry a knife of any size in an airport or a plane, best bet IS to take Azshooters advice and buy a cheap one for while your there and give it to your host when you leave. Anyway thats what I would do.

Re: Knives. I usually fly to NYC. Simply put my knife in my checked baggage. Obviously do not remove it while in the airport. Take it out later once I've left the airport. Same routine when flying home. Never a problem. No reason to simply buy a cheap knife locally. Just follow the rules. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

Now that it's almost settled, I find it ludicrous that a NYC compliant knife is illegal in Chicago. Technically, my small everyday Swiss knife is evil by 3/32 of an inch here.

Some of those states have mandatory jail time for weapon offenses if convicted. Best to be careful.

Sad really that this is being discussed like you are taking a trip to North Korea. Gosh if I fart in NYC will I get arrested?

And yes, I have been stopped by cops more than once for running stop signs or speeding. But I don't go looking for trouble by driving drunk or recklessly.
