    Another estate sale find

Saturday mornings are for estate sales around here. This is an interesting French Model 1886 Bayonet with an “X” shaped pointy rod style blade that I found this morning. All bayonets are nasty implements of war but this pig sticker is long enough to go in one end and out the other.

Is it a later one sans hooked quillon or was it bobbed/modified? The blade style is known as cruciform just in case you were looking for the word. Next step is to pick up an early French frog. The following step is to mount a Lebel rifle behind it.

It’s the later version. There’s a number stamped on the spot where the earlier model’s hooked quillon was located. You’re correct that a frog and Lebel rifle would look good with the bayonet.
