Don't all of the Popes change their name just as soon as they become a Pope?

I'm Baptist and as far as I know the POPE is not mentioned in my Bible. If so, I must have overlooked it somehow. Not being critical, I just would not have known as did S.A. Boggs...

Still don't know who he is.

Perhaps Billy Graham would have been a better choice. (of names)

Nobody really knows the name of any Pope until they become Pope and adopt a title name. Even if you may have been vaguely familiar with a last name you'd probably think his first name was Cardinal.
Doesn't matter what faith you were brought up in. It's a joke and the Bible says nothing about suppressing a sense of humor.

Knew an uppity MCpl in the Queen's Service named Cardinal. He'd answer the phone with a, "Cardinal, Art." Told him one day he'd run into an OCdt named Pope and he'd be in trouble.
"...You know all the..." Lotta the Popes have been all of those. Ever heard of The Borgias? Frank is just the latest of a long line of the superstitious.

I didn't take it as a joke. It was a good question and made you think.

I once threw a costume party at Halloween and had one guest come dressed as a Catholic Cardinal and another come as a pregnant nun. Somewhere I do have a photo of them posing together

The Pope is a bishop. If you read the epistles of Paul, you see the organization of the early Church:

Deacons -- who were administrative assistants.
Presbyters (elders or priests) who did the sacramental and pastoral work of the Church
Episcopoii, or supervisors, who kept order in large areas. Today we call them bishops.

But who supervises the supervisors? The senior bishop, the Bishop of Rome who is traditionally called the Pope (which is based on the root word for "father.")

Interestingly enough, in the Early Church, there were certain "churches" or religious communities that were held in special regard, and called "Patriarchies" These included Antioch (founded by Peter), Rome (where Peter served as the supervisor and was martyred) and Alexandria (founded by Mark.) The patriarchies of Rome and Alexandria still exist, and the Patriarch of Alexandria (who is the head of the Coptic Catholic Church) is the number 2 man in the Church. And he is, by definition, an African.

Considering the current and ongoing allegation by Archbishop Vigano that Pope Francis as early as 2013 had knowledge of and was complicit in the cover-up of the sexual abuse of seminarians under his control by former Boston Cardinal Theodore McCarrick when he was a priest in New York, perhaps the Lefty Pope deserves to be on a list with “liars, criminals, adulterers, murderers, thieves, sluts, and cheaters” and be recognized with such company...
