    Belgians

Had a couple of my rifles out for a cleaning and lube this morning and thought I would share some photos. Have enjoyed the company of this pair of Belgians for over 30 years.

Being hatched in the first half of the last century does have it's benefits as well as downfalls.

At one time I was interested in these. A few years back the parts kits were plentiful and companies started making aftermarket receivers. What was confusing and discouraged me was these were made in inch and metric patterns. Even the magazines would not interchange from what I read.

If I were younger and had fewer guns these would still interest me but like mentioned above, the good deals are gone.

Nice looking rifles that would be hard, if not impossible to improve upon.

Although the paras are neat I always thought the stocks were pretty uncomfortable to shoot. Seemed to always beat my cheek, more like lower jaw up.

As a reservist, I was trained on the Canadian version (inch pattern) of the FN rifle. The Canadian version was apparently different than other versions because the cover over the receiver was in two parts and was designed as a built in magazine charger. Also, the trigger guard could be removed so that the rifle could be fired while wearing mittens.

Unfortunately these are now classed as a prohibited firearms here. This of course is total nonsense and is clearly politically inspired since the M14 or the Chinese clones of the M14 are not even classed as restricted firearms. It is what I have always thought of as the "scary looking rifle" issue.

Similar to our not getting access to the M14 rifles that were taken out of service even though we trained with them and had a few issued over the years. Makes no sense to me. Guess that's one reason I never even considered politics.
