In 1957, moving from OK to Mississippi was in some ways a cultural shock. First week there, meeting/talking with the boy across the street when he said he had to "carry his momma to town". Shortly later this huge woman came out of his house and got into the car. He didn't understand why I was laughing and I wasn't about to explain.
The lady next door asked my mother if she ever had "balled" peanuts. Mom said "parched" yes, but not "balled". Next day the neighbor brought over a gallon jug of wet, whole peanuts in the shell, that she had boiled.
