Ohio University announced to the AFSCME Union maintance workers that as of 1 June their jobs are cut to save money. The "feel good" course of Women's and Gender studies are cut from two full time instructors to 0 and the African studies are cut to 1 starting next year. More cut are to be made to save money due to state money reductions to the universities in Ohio. The university is unsure as to how to proceed this next school year which starts in 90 days and the local schools as well have no idea on teaching.

Lots of students are going to be looking hard at community colleges for the simple reason that the costs of full-time enrollment at a residence type college or university are hard to justify given the realities of current employment opportunities and the uncertainties of future employment needs. Traditional colleges and universities are simply going to have to transition to a more student friendly outcome predicated approach ... or they will die. It is that simple. If the Great Panic (a far more accurate description than "pandemic") resulted in left-wing college professors (is there any other kind, except in a few religious schools?) to loose their cushy jobs, it might almost make it all worthwhile. Better yet, their students would be spared the unremitting left-wing indoctrination that is an essential part of the curriculum in most schools. Unfortunately, the universities most zealous in their commitment to left-wing indoctrination, like Harvard, Yale, other ivy-league schools, are also the ones with the most enormous endowments, so they can easily sustain any financial setback.

I know one that retired from UVA, (I bought most of his collection, and used to shoot Service Rifle with him)
know another 2 that both teach at UVA, one is a Small bore guy, the other a collector,



have a local customer that used to be part of a quarterbore forum years ago, collected all manor of stuff .25 cal and smaller, and was an avid duck hunter,

he is now in his 80's and selling off his Cooper Collection,
he taught, as did his wife, many years at a couple local schools

Count how many you can find in their 30s or 40s who feel that way. A few, no doubt, but I'll bet they have to keep their heads down to avoid student rioting.

I suspect that the students will look at the future employment situation and apply for courses that have a future income potential. Certainly that applies to any of the professional courses as well as courses that relate to finance or business or to courses that can lead to a profession, such as psychology. Hopefully the "politically correct" BS courses such as the women's studies courses mentioned above will die of their own uselessness

Funny thing is, if one or two classes outside the norm alters someone forever...they were extremely sheltered. Why is that the university's fault? Clearly the parents have messed up along the way.

Why would you say only one or two? Even a class as far from political considerations as calculus would not be a welcoming place for a kid daring enough to wear a MAGA cap. And the vast majority of parents are products of the same left-wing indoctrination that begins in elementary school. Parents with strong enough character & control over their kids to counterbalance the public school indoctrination probably have their kids in a private school, if they can possibly afford it.

Plenty of churches in an around campuses that I have attended in my life...as liberal as they could be in Clintonhater's nightmares.

I'd say you found your sense of community and moral compass without the need of it...which frees up your Sunday mornings. More time = Happier Life.

funny thing is, VCU had a Baptist Student Union on one corner, and the Gay Student Alliance occupied the building on the other corner,


gave me a chuckle,,, (VCU is a very diverse school, in a very diverse area of town) that they were next to each other
