MacArthur ordered Japanese police re-armed, after they surrendered their weapons and sent them back to their old jobs.

I often wonder had MacArthur convinced Truman to use nuclear bombs in N. Korea, what the world would be today. We were the only nation at that time that had nuclear bombs.

Actually not. The Russians detonated their first nuclear bomb in1948. In 1951, MacArthur proposed sealing the border with nuclear waste, not an actual bomb,

Six weeks after June everything was forgiven. The punks wanted to kick some ass as usual. The AF took Japanese women home. Our neighbor had a Japanese wife and me and her daughter did nauty things out in the woods. We had Germans in our neighborhood. Former solgiers. Very talented, squared away individuals. Talent speaks.

"...MacArthur convinced Truman to use nuclear bombs in N. Korea..." He wanted to nuke and invade the Chinese mainland not North Korea. He wanted to do so in response to the Chinese coming in.
"...Japanese police re-armed..." Nobody else available to maintain order. It was done all over SEA.
Georgie Patton created a scandal in Europe when he kept suspected Nazi civil admin types too. Same reason.

And there was precedent for that -- Grant assured the Confederate officers they could "return to their homes and remain there unmolested." Lincoln enthusiastically approved his action.

Of course Grant and Lincoln took the long view -- winning the war was only a small part of the problem. The REAL problem was re-uniting the nation. As a result, James Longstreet, Lee's "Old War Horse" was the man who put down the Ku Klux Klan, and John Singleton Mosby, "the Gray Ghost" became a loyal supporter of Grant,
