Why latest Canadian Firearms Regs are senseless

As some of you likely know, a couple of months ago the Canadian Liberal Government of Justin Trudeau declared over 1,000 models of firearm to be "prohibited". This included anything that anybody could describe as an "assault weapon" or was just scary looking. This, of course, was just another part of his attempt to be the darling of the "woke" generation and annti-gun lobby. Ostensibly this was to protect the public.

So yesterday (Halloween) a 24 year old man demonstrated that you don't need a semi automatic rifle to put the public at risk and carry out a mass killing. The guy dressed up in a medieval costume and wandered around the downtown area of Quebec City slashing a people with a sword. He killed two women and wounded five others before he was arrested. Unfortunatly he appears to have surrendured peacefully when accosted by the police. No doubt he will claim insanity (probably correctly) and will be let out of hospital in a few years when the shrinks deem him as no longer a threat.

Point taken Mark but seriously, 2 killed and 5 wounded is less than one 30 round mag. Firepower does matter in the hands of homicidal maniacs.

            not really,

if it were one round a person, a 1911 would have done that job,

fact is, as Mark pointed out, the laws in Canada did not , in this case, do as intended, protect the innocent,

hopefully Canada won't go down the rabbit hole the UK has on sharp pointy things,

unfortunately some folks will have to deal with the loss of a family member, or a wounded member,

We don't know who is still unharmed for the fact that the guy had a sword and not a firearm. At a minimum one should find out what the guy's history is with firearms before concluding the law was ineffective in his case.

That's just basic logic and reasoning.

Do you approve of tough OWI laws? There are still drunks out there behind the wheel. Why not just give up? It would be a boon to the tavern industry.

Togor. There is a lot of sense in your statement. I was fixating on the fact that he was able to slice up 7 people without using a firearm without really thinking about the damage that he could have done had he had one.

It does slow them down some. Numerous folks have been stabbed by Muslims(they know how to use knives) so nothing is fool proof but I guess this helps if your overrun with nutcases. Carry a cane for defense. Or a brolly, it rains, it looks appropriate.

Lyman. Yes we do have magazine restrictions: 5 rounds for semi auto rifles and 10 rounds for pistols. There is an exception and a surprising one. There is no mag size restriction for .22 rifles. That has recently caused something of an uproar. As in the USA, Ruger 10-22 rifles are very popular and there have apparently been tens of thousands of sales of 25 and 30 round magazines for them. A recent problem however is that Ruger brought out a pistol that uses the same 10 round mag as the 10-22 and as a result can be fitted with the 25 or 30 round mags designed and legal for the rifle. That has caused the government to declare the thousands of large mags to be prohibited. A much more logical approach would have been to declare the pistol to be prohibited since there would almost certainly have been very few sold at the time. The matter is going to court but I'm not sure when

                        that is interesting,

22's usually get an exemption due to the tube feed, but I guess you can pin the internal tube (or put a stop in like a shotgun ) if needed

Junior's import ban(that is to eventually lead to confiscation and more types being banned) is stupid because it makes what the idiot in Nova Scotia illegal when it was already illegal. The guy illegally bought the AR Stateside and illegally imported it into Canada. Junior and his gang of socialists has, once again, opted to further persecute the law abiding. They have had an agenda to make Canada the first Western country where the private ownership of any kind of firearm, BP and air powered included, a thing of the past.
I noticed there has been no call to ban edged weapons.
"...the laws in Canada did not..." The firearms laws here don't do that and never have. Nor have they ever been intended to protect anybody. Their sole purpose is to convince our stupid people that government is doing something about crime.

Firearms laws are written for the law abiding as there is virtually 100% compliance. The thugs and hoodlums don't abide by any law, so laws are not needed for them.
