I am not an alarmist by nature but I have been really concerned about the effects of inflation since the emergency pay outs started during the covid pandemic. I'm really concerned now, especially if the Dem holdouts fold on the Biden/leftie dream budget now in congress. I've been through hyper inflation and ridiculous interest rates and it is beginning to spook me that things could get worse than in the late 1970s.

I agree with you generally, especially about the internet. I also am reluctant about posting stuff from a prepper (land of paranoia) channel. But I've been seeing things this fellow talks about at retail stores for several months now. For example, I shop at a grocery store that gives a discount card. For as long as I can remember chicken breasts were 30-40% cheaper with the card. those days are over for a lot of products there including chicken breasts which are now full marked price there all the time. What once was 16 oz. can of chili has held 14-14.5 oz. for a while now, and you can definitely see the difference when the top comes off.

Frankly, I hope he's wrong about real inflation in the 20-30% range for over a year.

You are correct that downsizing has been around for a spell, its the degree and how fast it happens. He gave a hint at the product he expects to go up 20-30% this month. We'll see.

The reason these sites exist is to make money. The more people that are "sucked" into their world the more money they make. That's one of the reasons I don't ordinarily link stuff from their sites.

The Social Security Cola this year is expected to be over 6%. That's the highest since 1982. This despite persistent and successful creative accounting efforts over the years to reduce the cola for obvious reasons. If it is 6%+ that may provide comfort for retirees (including me) but is not a good sign overall.

I'm not concerned about Armageddon, or a worldwide natural cataclysm. I'm dead meat if that happens. I am becoming more concerned about inflation and the supply train which might cause some pretty serious inconvenience.

I just bought oil and filter for my 3 monthly service.
3 months ago the 4 qt oil was $26.
Today it was $34
3 month's time probably $60

The SHTF scenario is not so far fetched.
I'm a kind of prepper - meaning I bought stuff back when it was affordable.

I still make bicycles and have wholesale and OE accounts. I have recently seen more and more $100+ bicycle tires - and that is wholesaLe! $2,000.00 for a pair of high-end wheels is common. My product has lost its cred 'cause I didn't jack my prices high enough.

Yikes. Two Grand for a set of bicycle tires. Like I said, there's a truckloads of money floating around. The rest of us just sink below the middle class. Whatever that is anymore. Maybe it's the folks who only have one Winnebago. If you have a few thousand to throw at BLM you are worthy. By the way, BLM just annoys me. Not because of what you think. It's because, BLM goes with out saying. People who put those signs in there yards are just dumb.

It was 2 grand for a set of high-end wheels. The tires and tubes might only set you back another $250. My own thought is "what's wrong with this picture?"

bought my first Mountian Bike back in the early 90's for $400,

that was a lot of cash for a entry level Specialized bike,

due to time constraints , IE work, I gave up riding 2-4 times a week and eventually just stopped all together
my high school buddy still rides, and has spent a ton of money on the dozen or so bikes he has
