Swedish 94 conversion

OK, we all know what a Swede 94 looks like. We have seen the Good Ol Boy cutdown verions(think 1903 or any WWII). I wanted to post pics of both examples but I'm not good enough at this to do it. Anyway here is what I did with a poor 94 the Joe "fixed up".

I watched a vid of how to do this. A very nice little carbine. Some screw ups; tough to cut fine lines with my experience and tools. So I guess I'm Bubby too.

Dry, the original M 94 carbine that came over in the '60s had an 18" barrel length. They would REALLY bark. They carried the stock wood all the way to the muzzle. Yours looks more like a Model 1938 - had a 24" barrel and bent-down bolt handle. IMO the carbines did not get the best out of the 6.5x55 round; a 24' or 26" barrel gives you a better burn with max loads of slow-burning powder.

I'd go for your bubba job over the real carbine in most hunting situations.

jon_that was the idea. It is a "mini-mauser". 18" barrel and the original 94 rear sight set. If you have the original upper wood that helps immensely. I got very lucky that J &G happened to have a matching stock. I made up two of these and sold one. It's a little work but no profit. I would like to get better at it, but I can't afford it. I have to cut down stocks that are expensive and I really hate to mess up original wood. I had a beautiful 38 stock that I considered using but couldn't bring myself to cut it down. I sold it and lost money on it, but better than destroying a valuable stock. Your probably right about the efficiency of the shorter barrel. Maybe these rifles would work better with the old round nosed bullets. I got a hold of ten of them one time and was very impressed with the groups(I actually liked the nice holes they made). I'd lay out some serious money for another box. I suppose I could try and load them.
