I see someone coming toward me with a sword like that, my gun is already in my hand.
You're familiar with Tabasco Sauce, made by the McIlhenny Company on Avey Island, LA?
The McIlhenny, head of the clan, was in the Marine Corps Reserve and went on active duty in WWII. He was on Guadalcanal, and briefly commanded the 5th Marines. The McIlhennys have a small museum on Avey Island, and on display there is a Samuri sword like the little girl has (but bigger). In the display case with it is a dented US M1 helmet. That tells you a fairly dramatic story. -

The D-Day Museum in New Orleans has a similar and perhaps the same display. A USGI M1 helmet with a dent in it that is over an inch deep. The sword and scabbard that caused the dent being displayed along side of it. According to the info in the display the Japanese office didn't realize he drew the sword and the scabbard. He crashed the scabbard encased sword down on the head of the GI who promptly dispatched him.I see someone coming toward me with a sword like that, my gun is already in my hand.

The D-Day Museum is in the old Higgins Boat factory building and is well worth a visit if you're ever in the "Big Easy." The Nimitz Museum is more out of the way in Fredericksburg Texas. At one time they had the flight helmet Saburo Sakai was wearing when he was shot in the face attacking a bomber and flew several hundred miles back to his base. I'm surprised the helmet was saved and not trashed. Someone must have figured old Saburo might want it as a souvenir. The second time I went the helmet was gone and I figure it must have been on loan, possibly from the Sakai family.Comment
