The wife and I used to take the Amtrak Pennsylvanian from Pittsburgh to NYC to buzz around town for a long weekend. A GE Genesis Series diesel electric locomotive would take us through the heart of PA to Philadelphia at speeds of 70 MPH where a Siemens all electric locomotive would pull us to NYC at speeds reaching 130 MPH. The wife liked the big city while I enjoyed getting there. Anyone wandering around on the tracks would be toast at those speeds.
