Boer War Mausers vs Enfields - British Muzzleloaders

A head to head shoot off between a Long Lee Enfield and a Mauser M1895. A lot shows up in this comparison, such as the difference in bolt throw between the Mauser and Enfield and the advantage of clip loading. This guy knows how to run a bolt gun. 15 aimed rounds out of a Mauser in one minute is outstanding shooting.

Disclaimer: As can be expected the shooter is an Enfield "homer." Two things on this. First, its obvious the longer the test goes the further the Mauser pulls ahead in rate of fire. Second, the idea that rapid fire was probably only done for a short time is not exactly valid. Like the Brits in the Boer War, the Americans in the Spanish American War, after a very long period of fighting only indigenous people, had to fight Europeans armed with modern weapons. At El Caney, on the left flank of the San Juan Hill/Kettle Hill assault a reinforced company of trained Spanish infantry held off a division of US troops for most of a day until the Spaniards finally ran out of ammunition. This was done by maintaining a high rate of fire for extended periods from long range to "up close and personal." We and the Brits came to the simultaneous conclusion that clip loading was the way to go. With the Brits it also brought in a complete revision in rifle training and tactics.

The rifles used are gorgeous. British Muzzleloaders demonstrates some exceptional firearms.

Lyman - you tube just went completely wonky on my old 'puter. Can you (1) see if the link works and (2) fix it if it doesn't. I had this happen before and it takes a while to fix it.

I didn't get it either -- says You tube isn't available "on this device" and wants me to subscribe.

Sustained rapid fire works only under special conditions -- namely that you are in a fixed position and have lots of ammunition.

It won't open from that link, but I can get You Tube to open by going to YouTube.com.
Maybe they're boycotting shooting pages again or something.
once you get into You Tube this is the link:
