    They fly Bombers too close to our shore so we
    scramble fighters to scare them off.
    Then we fly Bombers too close to their shore so
    they scramble fighters to scare us off.
    Seems like a childish game to me - and dangerous.

      Nothing new.
      We were Escorting Tu 95 "Bears" out of UK airspace in Canberras back when I was "In".
      They'd scramble EE "Lightenings" (QRF), but they had a comparatively short on station duration, we could "stooge" them for much longer.
      Nowadays its "Typhoon II's" & STILL "Bears".
      Nothing has changed, half the time they're trolling for comms frequencies & Radar signatures to devise countermeasures.
