You'd think that after all this time the futility of trench
warfare would have been learned. Mass charges into
machine guns ordered by vicious British and German
Generals who should have been Court Marshalled are
now being echoed by Russian high ranking officers.
Maybe there's no other way for this kind of fighting.

The Russians did it in WWII. Also many commanders in the Spanish Civil War were Russians and they ordered many such attacks -- mostly by the International Brigades.

Putin is trying to win in Ukraine doing things the same way Stalin did it in WWII. Only problem is, Putin doesn't have the manpower or material nor the support of allies w/ deep pockets ... while Ukraine has the support of virtually the entire world, especially the members of NATO, the EU and of course the United States. Putin kicked the hornets nest and now has to deal with the consequences. Ukraine is now hitting targets hundreds of miles behind the Russian lines, returning the favor first used by Putin in the initial phase of the invasion. The longer things go on, the worse things will get for Putin and his cabal of criminals. Meantime, Ukraine is finding itself in that position of David ... knocking the stuffing out of Goliath. is drying up and Zelensky is running out of new
troops because they're hiding.
