Hmmm........very interesting. I did a 12 month unaccompanied tour of duty on Diego Garcia 1980-81. Have to see how this all pans out.

Agreed. The U. S. has invested billions of dollars in blood, sweat and tears into the development and buildup of Diego Garcia. Naval Construction Forces (i.e. SeaBees) transformed an austere and bleak coral atoll into a military base of major strategic importance over the course of the last fifty years. Some say it is on a par with the building of the Panama Canal and the construction of the Naval Air Station, Cubi Pt. in the Philippines; one of the largest earth moving projects ever accomplished by mankind.

It would be a waste of catastrophic proportions to give it all away as was done with Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.
