    Earworms

"Earworms" are unwanted catchy tunes that repeat in your head. A down side of being retired I suppose as not enough new thoughts enter the mind to clear out the tunes.

I was at a nearby pasture the other day feeding apples to some horses. A cow was looking on with interest across the road so I slowly approached her with an apple. As I got close enough she slowly walked away. The first thing I thought of was an old familiar song from the '60's "Just walk away Renee" and that Renee would be a good name for that cow. (what's wrong with me?) That song stuck in my head for days.

Days later I went to the local Piggly Wiggly where "music" is played over the store intercom. It is usually the newer type music and almost always female singers (women run the store). Most of it reminds me of the sounds of car horns and cats fighting but the other day someone had changed the station and this old tune was playing that everyone has heard.

Now I have a new tune in my head that won't leave me alone. Does this happen to you too? If so, you're probably going to be a little "ticked" at me.

          Julio Eglasias version of Guantanamera.
Erased by Ricky Martin’s Vive la Vida Loca.
That worm can be killed by blasting a Rob Zombie tune.

Seriously though, I get earworms a lot. And a lot of genres too.
A few months ago it was the Detroit Spinners cover of the old Four Seasons tune ‘Working my way back to you’
But I chose not to kill that one.

I'm not opening music links - it might be a tune I don't like that would get stuck in my head! Like the chick-fil-a theme song! SW

I was in the middle of trying to escape an ambush a mile long between Tay Ninh and Dau Tiang in Aug of 68. Don't ask me why, but "classical gas" was going through my head as I was cooking of the 50 on my M48. We got knocked out and left behind...on foot. I LOST the tune THEN!!
if you want to read about that event go here.
