    There were guys around here that did that sniff test on old shotties- looking for evidence of cordite.
    Had a mk III L/E in .303 here that stunk to high heaven of it, and the corresponding rotted bore.

    How much of a departure from reality is the bbl/action/cylinder swapping? Probably a bit more than what is portrayed here. Messing with tolerances without the proper measuring tools is sort of asking for it. As for poetic, creative license, I'm all over this portrayal from a parallel universe

    It can be done with the Umarex "cartridge" CO-2 revolvers to a certain extent- the cylinders and bbl sleeve will definitely interchange.
    Still very high up on my list of favorite movies.

      Loading cartridges in what looks like a 1851 Colt? Even if the cylinder was swapped there would not be a swing out loading gate on the frame unless it was one of those conversion models.
