Older daughter is putting on the feed bag today. Wifey made a couple side dishes we'll take over. Daughter likes to have a big crowd and has invited a few non family folks - which is fine. I know them, and they don't have a place to go otherwise. I'll stick around for pie and politely bail to look after Flop Ears and watch a little football. Sounded like they were going to play board games for quite a while, and I'm not much of a people person anyway. SW

None of us are quite as comfortable around non-family members, sometimes even distant relatives. I never liked it when I was a youngster. Now that I've grown up and most of the previous guest have died off I understand the importance of Thanksgiving better. Some of these folks would have done nothing much if they had stayed at home. For them to come and eat/visit shows they wanted to come and be a part of things.
Now my kids are grown. I have no grand kids. Most of my relatives and friends are gone or drifted away. My best Thanksgiving and Christmas memories are well past now. If I were alone a can of sardines would be fine. It's not all about the food and with the convenience of things Thanksgiving dinner can be had anytime of the year. However, we still put on the usual TG feed today for ourselves.
For those of you who entertain others/have guest over or if YOU are a guest at their home enjoy their company even if they're not your most favorite ones to be around because you never know when your time or theirs will end.
Sorry for the doom and gloom but being with family and friends is part of what we need to be thankful for. We all know this of course but it's easy to take for granted till they're gone. -

Today starts the beginning of leftovers for some of us.
This is the dish America is grateful for that keeps on giving.Attached FilesComment

Daughter sent a plate of leftovers home with me - I likes me some leftovers! The next celebration after Thanksgiving? Bleak Friday! People get out early to battle for the choice sale items - mostly marked "supplies limited". Around 10, I loaded up Flop Ears and went to pay the phones. As long as I was out, I did a survey of how bad the madness had progressed.
Wal-mart: parking lot full, but I've seen it a lot worse. Target was worse - lot was totally stuffed. Home Despot was stuffed - So was Menards. In fact, people were parking almost 2 blocks away and hiking. Both tractor supply kind of stores were stuffed. I wanted a big bag of squill food, but no way I was walking that far and waiting in line to get it. Tomorrow or Sunday maybe.
I did stop at the gro to get stuff for making chicken noodle soup - to nobody's surprise not many people in there. Got soup stuff and a scratcher that paid off $40.
After that it was home to watch the latest episode of Landman (great series!) and catch a nap. SW
