    Christmas dinner

Wifey made salads yesterday - daughters made more plus home made rolls and a pie or 2. Turk is ready to be stuffed in the oven, but I didn't think things through about breakfast. McRonalds and mini-mart are both closed - as they should be but no biscuit sammiches. I didn't make anything, so it was yell into the fridge to see what jumped out... a small box of chicken wings!

How's that for Christmas breakfast? Now to hold out until dinner. Since I cut the turk, I get to snitch choice pieces, and Flop Ears gets turk skins. Works for us!

    Merry Christmas, friends! SW

did ours yesterday evening, cooked here at home and took it to Mom's, Brother and his new Fiancee (they got engaged on the winter solstice) came down, so 5 of us,

    ham
    deviled eggs
    tater salad
    mashed taters
    green beans
    rolls
mac n cheese (Crock pot style, different and tasty)

desert was a gourmet cheesecake a friend makes from scratch and sells as a fundraiser for local shooters

made the missus some french toast this morning

will head back over to Mom's possibly for a light lunch,

meanwhile, after a minor sink repair, the sofa is looking pretty good right now

A couple of slices of white bread thrown in the toaster and a pot of coffee use to be all I wanted for breakfast. Now, due to the gluten, bread is out for me.

My wife eats healthy stuff like oatmeal with dried cranberries. With my newly discovered heart ailments I should eat better but don't so a banana, an apple, a couple of scrambled eggs and ham slices (if I want to go to the trouble) is routine for me.

Breakfast and lunch were never big meals for me nor our household, supper being the main dining for the day. Today, being Christmas is the exception of course with the wife preparing cornbread dressing, turkey breast in the oven, sweet potatoes, store bought pumpkin and pecan pies flying around in a holding pattern, other stuff. Tonight will begin the leftovers.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

This year everyone brengs their signatue soup/chili / stew. We furnish the large cups or bowls as they wish. Homemade chili (that tastes good, not to burn the paint off the barn door), ham and potato soup, corn chowder, vegitable beef soup, and whatever surprise. There are so many dietary restrictions...over arching one is no salt. If someone wants it, they can add it in their cup/ bowl.

New bikes and trikes are all in the rear view mirror. Feet up and conversation now mostly. Just remember whose birthday we celebate when we cut the birthday cake.

        MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

Wrapping paper has been shredded, and final dinner prep is underway. I emphatically told them no gifts, but still got full auto rubber band gun X 2 and a model ship. That will keep me occupied when the weather gets nasty! SW

Those new toys may keep you busy during nasty weather but the Thompson has it's limits.

On the box it states to fire at Will. Good luck finding him.

I get 5 or 6 quarts of Brunswick Stew from a friend, his Ruritan club cooks it,
he calls it old man stew,

since everyone is past 60, (he is 73) and has dietary restrictions, the stew is good as is, just a bit bland,
a couple shakes of salt, and a dash or 3 of Tabasco and it is that much better

We do the home made soup/fancy meal bit for new years day. Home made cream o' mushroom soup - good and good for ya! I'm trying creamy shrimp linguini this year.

I did the store turk again this year. I am getting good at doing this!
Our bird was +15 lbs, and there was more than enough for everyone.
Christmas breakfast? Usually for me, a cup of coffee and a couple of cookies/pastries~ whatever's around here.
Bird's usually in the oven by 07:00, and the kitchen is too hot to cook anything else in. We do this both at Christmas and Thanksgiving.
Gift haul for me didn't amount to much, as usual. I should pix up what I got! Wife got even less, and she is the primary gift provider for the entire family.
Might be a page for my book in there somewhere- give more, and receive less.

Just made a trip to the gro for a few supplies - like stuff to make turk-n-noodles. Later in the week, I'll combine leftover ham with pinto beans and garlic sausage. Add a little brown sugar, ketchup and just a dash of extra hot paprika my main man in Hungary sent.

No worries about flatulence - a small container of yogurt takes care of that effectively. SW

We did our boneless prime rib with gravy, mashed potatoes , carrots and peas followed by a home made apple pie. Left overs don't last long. Whatta Hobby!

My haul for the year, provided by Mrs. S., who is the only one concerned enough to bother getting me gifts:

Nice Chino field/car coat that I don't really need. Will give it a shot when it hit's -30 here.

Relaxed fit Levi jeans (which I really need). Levi's ain't my first choice, but we'll make 'em do.

Insulated and hooded plaid shirt. First red for me. Wonder what the white-tailed deer and grouse are gonna think of this. Usual go-to in this is blue over grey. We'll see this coming fall.

This I actually need for the summer. a wicking type t-shirt for when I'm speeding around on the blue rocket Motobecane Super Sprint. Supposed to be a swim shirt, but it will do just fine on the bike in the summer heat.

January is when we get our years pork/meat from the Amish community. One of the Brethren runs a butchering service in the fall and winter when it is cold. The meat is professionally done and vacuum packed to our liking and at a much-reduced cost compared to commercial meats. Our pig/steer was delivered to him and his family today with delivery by the end of January. He said somewhere between 1,000 to 1,200 lbs of meat total.
